Doha – May 13, 2025

As part of efforts to commemorate the reopening of Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariya in its renewed form, H.E. Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, Minister of Culture, launched a commemorative postage stamp in coordination with Qatar Post (Qatar Postal Services Company). The stamp celebrates the resumption of Dar Al Kutub’s operations following extensive renovation and development, marking its return to a central role in fostering a reading culture in Qatar and serving as a beacon of knowledge since its inception.

The uniquely designed stamp features a circular motif inspired by the iconic windows of Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariya—symbolizing the reception, transmission, and circulation of knowledge simultaneously. The design reflects the Ministry of Culture’s commitment to incorporating aesthetic and expressive elements into all cultural events it organizes, conveying powerful messages rooted in the beauty and cultural symbolism of the Qatari environment.

The stamp was officially unveiled during the 34th edition of the Doha International Book Fair.

Prior to the launch, a dedicated panel discussion was held featuring Mr. Faleh Mohammed Al-Naemi, Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Post, and Mr. Ibrahim Al-Sayed, Director General of Dar Al Kutub Al Qatariya. The session highlighted the library’s historical significance and pioneering role in preserving and disseminating knowledge. It also emphasized the cultural value of postage stamps as tools for documenting and showcasing Qatar’s identity and heritage. The speakers shared insights into the conceptual background and symbolic meaning behind the stamp’s design.

The stamp was printed in France by Cartor Security Printing, one of the world’s leading companies specializing in postage stamp production. A total of 5,000 stamps were produced, each priced at QAR 15. A First Day Cover is also available for QAR 17.

This special issue commemorates a significant milestone in Qatar’s cultural history and underscores its deep connection to national identity.
